Manager fuming at referee after defeat

From the archive, first published Thursday 13th Apr 2006.

Skenfrith Utd 1 Bartestree 4

MANAGER Darren Brown labelled Saturday's home defeat "laughable" as Skenfrith's good performance went unrewarded.

His side had dominated the first half and hit the post twice, but only went in 1-0 up. And with Bartestree pushing for the title they inevitably raised their game for the second half and scored after only two minutes to make it 1-1.

Brown then felt Skenfrith were denied an apparent penalty and accused the referee of missing more vital decisions; including an alleged hand ball in the build up to Bartestree's second and a push on defenders Steve Phipps and Jerry Pound to make it 3-1.

Brown said afterwards: "This was the worst refereeing performance I've seen for years, he was awful. I think this game is best forgot, although I was that mad, it'll be hard too."

He also added his thanks to Weeks wholesale fresh meats and Mr and Mrs Brian Nash, of Newlands Bed and Breakfast for sponsoring the game.

Skenfrith now turn their attention to a busy end of season run-in, starting away at Orcop tomorrow, (kick-off 6.30pm). They then travel to Shobdon this Saturday April 15, before facing Orcop again in the Ross Cup final on Monday, April 19.
